PERSONAL SKILLS

Communication

skills

Good communication skills were developed through: a) family (a nice, cooperative and loving environment), b) participation in international level sports, c) studies (graduate diploma in communication management), d) writing of university notes on communication and e) teaching of many   communication classes.

Good negotiation skills were developed through: a) studies, b) various professional positions I served in, c) long involvement with the Hellenic Association for Sport Management at top levels, d) various projects I endeavoured myself with (examples follow).

Example 1: Αt the preparatory stages I negotiated the underlined sentence, which was eventually included in the Article 7 of the New European Charter for Sport, adopted by the Ministers of Sport from the countries-members of the Council of Europe, in Rhodes, Greece (May 1992):

“….such support will include aspects related to the identification of talent, to balanced education while in training institutes, and to a smooth integration into society through development of career prospects during and after sporting excellence”.

Example 2: In order to implement the Master in Sport Management for Greek Administrators in Sydney I brought at the same table to discuss and coordinated the efforts of the Sydney 2000 Organizing Committee of Olympic Games, the University of Technology, Sydney, the Greek Ministry of Sport and the International Olympic Committee.

Good international understanding skills were developed through: a) studies, b) long stay in USA and Australia, c) traveling in 42 countries (in some of them multiple times), d) the time I devoted to the Sports Division of the Council of Europe (3 months).

Organisational /

managerial skills

I consider myself as an efficient and inspiring team player. I integrate well and quickly in an active and dynamic team. However, I do not hesitate to take the initiative wherever / whenever I feel that something good can be created for the most people, in the least amount of time, using the least amount of resources. Covering different tasks at the same time is something I like doing because I believe that “time” and “health” are the two most important assets of all people and we all have to make sure that we are making good use for both of them.

Some of the accomplishments I achieved using the above organizational / managerial skills, which I am very proud of, are the following:

ê Introduced sport management both as a field of study and as a profession in Greece.

ê Introduced the “Dual Career” concept in Greek sport (2011).

ê Organized the 1st Master’s degree in sport management for Greek administrators (1999).

ê Wrote the 1st sport management book in the Greek language (1997) (followed by many others).

ê Organized the 1st national conference in sport management (1996) (followed by many others).

ê Organized the 1st minor degree in Sport Management in Greece, in the Department of Physical Education & Sport Science, Democritus University of Thrace (1994).

ê Established the Hellenic Association for Sport Management (1993).

ê Organized the 1st conference in the European Community on the subject “Sport in the European Community” (1991).

Computer skills Computer literate. Good command of Microsoft Word and Power Point. User of Skype.
