
The Department of Sports Excellence of the 1st Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic, NKUA, with an exclusive donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), announces its collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University and launches a scholarship program for the training of interested individuals in the implementation of Therapeutic Exercise programs, within the framework of developing Therapeutic Exercise centers in the country.
The scholarship program is implemented through an exclusive donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) to Yorkshire Cancer Research and will be conducted in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University. The training will take place at Sheffield Hallam University, located in Sheffield, United Kingdom. Scholars will have the opportunity to train in exercise protocols for clinical populations and participate in research projects related to the role of exercise in the prevention and management of chronic non-communicable diseases and in promoting health and well-being in the general population. Additionally, scholars will be able to observe and participate in the Yorkshire Cancer Research “Active Together” program, a therapeutic exercise program for cancer patients.
The scholarship concerns:
- The transmission, dissemination, and establishment of a culture for the participation of people with diabetes in systematic and supervised exercise, enhancing understanding of its importance for health,
- Physicians (Physiatrists – Orthopaedists – General Practitioners) wishing to develop in therapeutic exercise
- Physical Education Teachers
- Physiotherapists
- Sports Psychologists
Academic level:
- Postgraduate students
- PhD students – Holders of Doctoral degrees
Requirements:
- Photocopy of degree or certificate of completion of studies.
- Photocopy of transcript of records of all years of study (undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral studies).
- Detailed CV in English including information on studies, research or professional activity, and the candidate’s interests.
- Two letters of recommendation in English.
- Proof of English language proficiency or other foreign languages.
Duration:
The stay in the Sheffield area is set at 3 months.
Expenses covered:
The scholarship covers travel and accommodation expenses and includes a fixed daily allowance for living expenses.
Candidate selection process:
Applications are submitted electronically via the form. Final selection of candidates is made by a scientific committee with representatives from both universities, following evaluation of CVs and a personal interview.
* It is noted that part of the interview process will take place in English.
Post-training evaluation:
Scholars complete a training diary and log book for each of their activities and are evaluated monthly on their progress by their supervisors (Sheffield Hallam University). If necessary, appropriate recommendations are made, and in case of non-compliance, the scholarship may be terminated.
