At the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science (D.O.E.S.S.), the “Physical Education and Exercise Laboratory” operates to promote research (Presidential Decree 466/13.11.1991, Government Gazette A 172). The Laboratory consists of six informal sectors: a) Recreation & Sports Tourism, b) Biomechanics, c) Therapeutic Exercise & Rehabilitation, d) Motor Performance & Physical Education, e) Clinical Ergophysiology & Exercise Physiology, and f) Physical Performance.

The mission of the Laboratory is:

  • To meet the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research needs of the Department of Physical Education and Sport Science, as well as other departments of Democritus University of Thrace, in subjects related to the laboratory’s fields of expertise.
  • To support the research activities of other laboratories within the institution, to pursue research collaborations, and to exchange experiences with faculty members of other related departments at Democritus University of Thrace, other higher education institutions in Greece, and universities abroad.
  • To collaborate in various forms with relevant research centers and academic institutions, both Greek and international, as well as with governmental bodies or international organizations.
  • To organize scientific lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences, and other scientific events.
  • To produce publications and editions.
  • To invite distinguished Greek and foreign scientists who contribute to the scientific progress of the laboratory.
  • To provide information to society through seminars or annually scheduled lectures related to the laboratory’s scientific interests.
