The Democritus University of Thrace considers it important to support postdoctoral research, as it contributes to the qualitative and quantitative upgrading of scientific research. That is why it provides interested researchers with the possibility of conducting post-doctoral research and carrying out research, teaching or laboratory work in the subjects it treats, in accordance with current legislation and its internal regulations.
The main objectives of conducting postdoctoral research at the Democritus University of Thrace are indicatively the following:
- Strengthening the quality of scientific research.
- The development of new research fields in the D.U.Th. Departments that are related to the doctoral thesis scientific field of the postdoctoral researcher
- The contribution to meeting the research needs of the Departments.
- The approach and solution of specific research problems that concern the Departments.
- Achieving further results of the doctoral thesis of the postdoctoral researchers in new scientific directions that are of interest to the respective Department.
- The transfer of know-how.
- The support of scientists, so that they contribute to the progress of science and the development of research and applications.
- The specialization of postdoctoral fellows in theoretical and applied areas of interdisciplinary disciplines, which are treated either by the individual academic units of the D.U.Th. or through the University Center for Research and Innovation.
- Highlighting the quality and academic prestige of the research work of the Democritus University of Thrace, as well as strengthening its international presence.
